Global buyer’s positive node will help regain the pace of RMG exports
Despite recent political turmoil in Bangladesh, global fashion brands, particularly from Europe, America, and East Asia, have increased their sourcing from the country. Industry insiders credit this surge to the proactive efforts of Bangladeshi exporters, who maintained strong communication with brands and worked tirelessly to meet export deadlines during the unrest. The appointment of Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus as the head of the interim government has also enhanced Bangladesh’s brand image, further boosting confidence among international buyers.
Major brands like US Polo, Gap, and Express have increased their orders, with US Polo now occupying about 40% of Giant Group’s production capacity. Additionally, new brands like Korean BYC are exploring sourcing from Bangladesh for the first time. European buyers have also expressed trust in Yunus’s leadership, with companies like H&M and Inditex refraining from imposing penalties for shipment delays caused by the unrest.
However, concerns remain among some exporters due to the ongoing protests and challenges such as electricity and gas shortages, and port congestion. While there is optimism about the potential to increase global market share, industry leaders stress the importance of the interim government addressing these issues to reassure buyers and maintain momentum.
