18th Bangladesh denim expo highlights industry readiness for post-LDC era

18th edition of the Bangladesh Denim Expo, held at Dhaka’s International Convention City Bashundhara on 13–14 May, focused on preparing the country’s denim industry for its transition from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. Two-day event attracted 57 exhibitors from 13 countries, including Bangladesh, India, China, Pakistan, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Vietnam, the USA, and others.

Organized by Mr. Mostafiz Uddin, founder and CEO of Bangladesh Denim Expo, the event underscored innovation, sustainability, and workforce development as strategic pillars for maintaining competitiveness in a changing global trade landscape. Uddin highlighted Bangladesh’s strong performance in global markets, noting a 26.64% year-on-year growth in apparel exports to the US during Q1 of 2025, despite mounting trade pressures and reciprocal tariffs from the US administration.

As Bangladesh approaches its LDC graduation in 2026, potential loss of duty-free access to the EU under schemes like EBA and GSP remains a major concern. Mustafiz Uddin emphasized the shift from planning to action, with this expo focusing on capacity building across the value chain. He also urged that Bangladesh should be more focused on local expertise and through time Bangladeshi experts can get hold internationally.

Key features included expert panel discussions, a fashion trend zone, and technical presentations on advanced denim production methods and sustainable practices, showcasing Bangladesh’s growing leadership in responsible manufacturing.
