RMG leaders urge customs to end harassment, simplify bonded services

Leaders of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment sector have called on customs authorities to simplify bonded services and eliminate VAT-related harassment to safeguard the industry’s global competitiveness.
A BGMEA delegation, led by Director Faisal Samad, met with Dhaka South Customs Bond Commissioner Mohammad Hasmat Ali to address bottlenecks in customs procedures. The delegation highlighted persistent complications when bonded factories outsource services such as washing, printing, dyeing, and embroidery to non-bonded units.
BGMEA also pressed for reforms to ease FOC raw material imports, ensure smooth subcontracting, and reconstitute a joint working committee involving customs houses, the NBR, and industry stakeholders to address structural challenges. Commissioner Hasmat Ali assured the delegation of faster, easier services and pledged full cooperation to create a business-friendly environment for exporters.
