BGMEA advises factory closure on December 25

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has advised garment factories around Dhaka Airport, Tongi and nearby areas to temporarily close on December 25 due to expected large public gatherings marking the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
In a notice issued on December 22, BGMEA said heavy crowds could disrupt workers’ movement and the transport of import-export goods in areas including Uttara, Khilkhet, Tongi, Ashulia (east), and surrounding industrial zones. More than 200 BGMEA member factories are located in these areas.
BGMEA suggested factory owners discuss with workers about taking leave on the day and adjusting the duty day before or after December 25. The association said the move is precautionary to avoid logistical disruptions, not due to security concerns.
