Pangaon inland container terminal to be operated by Swiss firm from January 2026

Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (ICT) in Keraniganj, Dhaka, is set to be fully operational as Medlog, the logistics arm of Switzerland-based MSC, takes over operations in the first week of January 2026. The terminal, built in 2013 on 64 acres at a cost of Tk 154 crore, has a capacity to handle 200,000 containers annually.

Medlog will operate the terminal for 22 years, investing around Tk 490 crore to introduce state-of-the-art handling equipment, mobile harbor cranes, specialized vessels, and automated systems, along with a container freight station and a cotton warehouse. The move aims to increase container movement via inland waterways, currently only 1% of total transport between Dhaka and Chattogram.

Officials said the long-term contract will encourage infrastructure development and reduce pressure on road transport, while port users expressed optimism that the new operator will improve efficiency and reduce costs.
