BGMEA engages Chinese industry leaders to boost investment and technology collaboration

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association held a high-level bilateral meeting with a 20-member delegation from the China Dyeing and Printing Association, aiming to strengthen cooperation, attract investment, and accelerate technological advancement in Bangladesh’s textile sector.
The meeting took place at the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka and was led by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan. The Chinese delegation included senior representatives from the China National Textile and Apparel Council along with executives from leading dyeing, printing, finishing, and chemical manufacturing companies.
Discussions centered on expanding foreign direct investment (FDI), particularly in modernizing Bangladesh’s textile value chain. Emphasizing China’s long-standing role as a key sourcing partner for raw materials and machinery, Mahmud Hasan Khan urged Chinese entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in high-potential areas such as man-made fiber (MMF), synthetic textiles, and technical fabrics.
He noted that Bangladesh’s woven fabric import market—valued at $8–9 billion annually—offers a significant opportunity for investors. He also highlighted the possibility of joint ventures and assured full support from BGMEA to facilitate business expansion.
BGMEA president further pointed out that investors could benefit from preferential trade advantages, including duty-free access to Japan under existing economic agreements, enhancing Bangladesh’s attractiveness as a manufacturing base.
A key focus of the meeting was technology transfer. BGMEA called for enhanced collaboration in areas such as digital printing, advanced dyeing processes, and sustainable manufacturing practices. Both sides discussed the importance of training, knowledge exchange, and adopting environmentally friendly technologies to improve efficiency and compliance.
To strengthen business linkages, BGMEA requested detailed company profiles from the Chinese delegation to enable direct business-to-business engagement with local manufacturers. The visiting delegation also toured several dyeing and printing facilities in Bangladesh during their visit.
Both parties concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to deeper collaboration aimed at driving sustainable growth and mutual benefits for the textile and garment industries of both countries.
