Bangladesh exports climb 6% to $17 billion, led by garments

Bangladesh earned $17.04 billion from goods exports in the first four months of the 2026–27 fiscal year, marking a 6% increase from $16.08 billion in the same period a year earlier, with ready-made garment shipments driving most of the growth, according to a BSS report citing Bangladesh Bank.

Knitwear exports rose 7% to $7.71 billion during July–October, while woven garment exports increased 4.8% to $6 billion. Together, the two categories accounted for around 80.4% of total export earnings and contributed approximately 81% of overall growth.

Several non-garment sectors also posted strong gains. Jute and jute goods exports increased 23.8% to $383 million, leather and leather goods rose 12.7% to $464 million, and chemical exports grew 27.3% to $157 million. Home textiles and footwear recorded growth of 7.4% and 9.7%, respectively.

However, agricultural exports declined 13.5%, frozen and live fish fell 10.9%, and cotton and cotton products dropped 10.2%.

The overall increase indicates continued growth in Bangladesh’s export sector, while gains in jute, leather and chemicals point to opportunities for diversifying the country’s export base.
