Bangladesh and Greece agreed to tie up in trade cooperation and man power recruitment
Foreign Minister Dr. Hassan Mahmud and his Greek counterpart, Mr. George Gerapetritis, affirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral ties across various sectors, including migration, trade, investment, shipping, and renewable energy. They discussed strategies to boost cooperation in renewable energy and infrastructure development during a meeting at the 9th Our Ocean Conference in Athens.
Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation and excellent relations between Bangladesh and Greece. Minister Gerapetritis assured Dr. Mahmud of his government’s priority to open a Diplomatic Mission in Dhaka.
Dr. Mahmud urged Greece to encouragee its businesses to import high-quality Bangladeshi products and facilitate exports from Bangladesh. Minister Gerapetritis acknowledged the untapped potential in bilateral trade and emphasized the need for a suitable strategy to enhance trade and investment.
Dr. Mahmud thanked Greece for legalizing over 10,000 Bangladeshi nationals under the Migration and Mobility MoU and urged for the smooth implementation of the agreement’s second part. Minister Gerapetritis expressed Greece’s preference for recruiting Bangladeshi professionals for various sectors like agriculture, tourism, hospitality, and construction.
Both ministers recognized the potential for cooperation in the shipping sector and agreed to build the legal framework for fruitful collaboration. Minister Gerapetritis accepted Dr. Mahmud’s invitation to visit Dhaka, suggesting it as an opportunity to inaugurate the Greek Diplomatic Mission.
Additionally, Dr. Mahmud held discussions with Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Maria Jesus Montero on bilateral issues and mutual interests, agreeing to cooperate in climate change, water management, agriculture, green energy, and environmental sectors.
