WB will support recovering stolen assets from Bangladesh
World Bank will support Bangladesh in recovering stolen assets through the Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative (StAR). This was discussed during a meeting between a World Bank delegation and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah on 24th September. The hour-long meeting focused on collaboration for asset recovery and enhancing the ACC’s capacity to combat money laundering.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain explained that recovering laundered money requires cooperation from countries where the assets are moved. The World Bank will work with law enforcement agencies in these nations to facilitate recovery efforts.
Additionally, the ACC has engaged with the FBI and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to further tackle money laundering. StAR, a joint initiative of the World Bank and UNODC, aims to end safe havens for corrupt funds globally.
