Big brand INDITEX wish to deepen trade relationship with Bangladesh

Oscar Garcia Maceiras, CEO of INDITEX, has affirmed the company’s intent to strengthen its partnership with Bangladesh, recognizing the country’s vital role as a key sourcing hub for the Spanish fashion giant.
“We already have very strong ties, and we are eager to deepen this relationship,” said Maceiras, adding that Bangladesh offers a highly business-friendly environment for sourcing. During a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, Maceiras highlighted Bangladesh’s favorable position in the evolving landscape of global trade. He noted that the country is well-placed to benefit from the shifting dynamics of international commerce.
The conversation covered a range of topics, including global trade trends, cultural collaboration between Bangladesh and Spain, and INDITEX’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in the country. Following visits to several factories, Maceiras praised the diversity and quality of products manufactured in Bangladesh. He also described the chief adviser’s address at the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 as “very inspirational.”
As part of INDITEX’s ongoing CSR initiatives, Maceiras announced a new agreement with the Asian University for Women in Chattogram to fund graduate and postgraduate education for at least 50 female workers from its partner factories in Bangladesh. He also shared that INDITEX has established a Chair in Spanish Language and Culture at Dhaka University, furthering educational and cultural ties between the two countries.
INDITEX, the world’s largest fast fashion group, owns several major brands including Zara, Bershka, and Massimo Dutti. Professor Yunus praised the company’s social initiatives and recalled his personal ties to Spain and his friendship with former Spanish Queen Sofia. He also urged INDITEX to expand its support for healthcare services benefiting garment workers in Bangladesh.
INDITEX officials at the meeting added that the company will soon begin air-shipping cargo from Sylhet International Airport, marking another step in enhancing its supply chain capabilities in the region.
