Bangladesh and Mexico to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2025

Bangladesh and Mexico have recognized 2025 as the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, presenting an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation. This was highlighted during a meeting between María Teresa Mercado Pérez, Mexico’s Deputy Foreign Minister, and Bangladesh’s Ambassador Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey at the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
Ambassador Mushfique proposed joint initiatives and celebrations to mark this milestone, reflecting the growing friendship between the two nations. Both dignitaries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding diplomatic and economic collaboration.
Discussions included holding the 3rd Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in Mexico in late August or early September 2024 to advance partnerships across various sectors. Ambassador Mushfique emphasized the need to finalize pending Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in key areas such as agriculture, defense, visa waivers, football, and double taxation avoidance.
Additionally, he stressed the increasing economic and diplomatic exchanges and the urgency of establishing a Mexican Embassy in Dhaka to further facilitate cooperation. Deputy Minister María Teresa Mercado Pérez assured Mexico’s full support in advancing these initiatives and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening ties with Bangladesh. Both sides expressed optimism about future relations, aiming to deepen engagement in trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchanges.
