Inaugural global industrial hemp fiber summit set for July in North Carolina

The first-ever Global Industrial Hemp Fiber Summit had taken place from July 15–17, 2025, at NC State University’s Wilson College of Textiles in Raleigh, North Carolina. Aimed at advancing collaboration, innovation, and investment in the U.S. hemp fiber industry, the event had drawn key stakeholders from across the globe.
Organized by the National Industrial Hemp Council (NIHC) and supported by the NSF Textile Engine, the summit brought together experts, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to explore opportunities across the hemp fiber supply chain — from cultivation to finished textile products. NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles hosted the three-day event, beginning with a welcome reception on July 14 at Trophy Brewing.
“The summit is designed to provide actionable insights and build bridges across the value chain,” said Patrick Atagi, NIHC President and CEO. “Attendees had gained practical strategies and form vital connections to move the hemp fiber industry forward.”
The first day of the summit features five plenary sessions focusing on agriculture, processing, textiles, composites and building materials, and the industry value chain. Presentations delved into cutting-edge research and developments in genetics, manufacturing, and sustainability.
On July 16, attendees visited NC State’s Horticultural Research Stations and Biophil Natural Fibers in Lumberton to witness firsthand the transformation of hemp from field to fiber. These tours had led by Dr. David Suchoff and David Camby, showcasing innovations in decortication, spinning, and processing.
The final day, July 17, includes additional speakers, roundtable discussions, and tours of the Wilson College of Textiles and The Nonwovens Institute, offered deeper insights into the technological advancements driving the sector.
