BASF reaffirms commitment to circular plastics at K 2025

As the world’s premier trade fair for plastics and rubber returns to Düsseldorf from October 8–15, BASF will once again be a key participant—continuing a legacy that dates back to the first K-Fair in 1952.
“This year, we reaffirm our commitment to the plastics industry by advancing sustainability and innovation through our global campaign, #OurPlasticsJourney,” said Martin Jung, President of BASF Performance Materials. “It’s more than a slogan—it’s our roadmap toward a circular plastics economy. The journey takes time, but the destination is clear.”
During the K-Preview press conference on June 17, BASF offered a preview of what visitors can expect at K 2025: customer-focused innovations and tangible progress in circularity across industries.
Driving down the carbon footprint
BASF is evolving its product portfolio to further reduce carbon emissions. At K 2022, the company introduced its LowPCF and ZeroPCF product lines—offering at least 30% lower Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) through mass balance approaches involving renewable electricity, bio-based steam, and sustainable raw materials. A standout example is VAUDE’s bike bag made with Ultramid® ZeroPCF—the industry’s first polyamide 6 with a net-zero CO₂ footprint.
Now, BASF has launched the new reduced PCF (rPCF) product range, expanding its sustainable solutions across Engineering Plastics and Thermoplastic Polyurethanes. This follows BASF’s milestone of transitioning all European Performance Materials plants to solar- and wind-powered electricity.
“With rPCF, customers can tailor their product footprints by choosing renewable energy sources within our production,” said Alexander Weiser, Senior Vice President of BASF Performance Materials Europe. “This is a natural progression in both our own and our customers’ sustainability journeys.”
