UNIFA accessories to invest $48.66 million in BEPZA Economic Zone

Unifa Accessories (BD) Co. Ltd., a China–British Virgin Islands joint venture, has signed an agreement to invest $48.66 million in establishing a state-of-the-art bag and fashion accessories manufacturing plant in the BEPZA Economic Zone located in Mirsharai, Chattogram.

The agreement was formalized at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka between the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) and Unifa Accessories, according to an official press release.

The planned facility will produce approximately 28 million pieces of fashion items annually, including bags, belts, caps, hats, scarves, mufflers, eyewear, and eyeglass frames. The project is expected to generate employment for 2,830 Bangladeshi workers, contributing significantly to local job creation.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, Executive Chairman of BEPZA. Signing on behalf of BEPZA was Md Ashraful Kabir, Member (Investment Promotion), while Qian Danchu, Chairman of Unifa Accessories (BD), signed on behalf of the investor.

Welcoming the foreign direct investment, Major General Ziaur Rahman expressed BEPZA’s full commitment to supporting Unifa Accessories in ensuring a smooth and efficient business operation. He emphasized that the project would play a crucial role in promoting Bangladesh’s socio-economic development and further strengthen the country’s position in global fashion and accessories manufacturing.

Till to date, 42 companies have committed a total investment of $942.15 million in BEPZA EZ, with four companies already in commercial operation. The signing ceremony was attended by several senior BEPZA officials, including Md Imtiaz Hossain (Member, Engineering), ANM Foyzul Haque (Member, Finance), Md Tanvir Hossain (Executive Director, Investment Promotion), Md Khorshid Alam (Executive Director, Enterprise Services), and ASM Anwar Parvez (Executive Director, Public Relations), alongside representatives from Unifa Accessories.
