Barmag unveils advanced POY 2.0 spinning concept with higher efficiency and automation

Barmag has introduced a new generation spinning concept designed to significantly improve the efficiency and automation of partially oriented yarn (POY) production. The innovative POY 2.0 system was showcased to industry experts during ITMA Asia + CITME 2025, where it received strong interest from global yarn manufacturers.
The redesigned spinning concept integrates the latest WINGS POY 2.0 winding technology, marking the first time that an automatic string-up function has been incorporated into such a system. According to the company, several international yarn producers have already expressed interest in establishing a pilot plant following the presentation.
The POY 2.0 concept was developed after Barmag engineers conducted a comprehensive review of the entire production process—from spinning to winding. The result is a system featuring optimized components, improved energy efficiency, and simplified operational procedures, helping manufacturers achieve greater productivity and cost efficiency.
Compact and efficient DIO spin pack
A key component of the new system is the upgraded DIO spin pack, which has been redesigned to deliver more consistent filament quality through improved rheological performance.
The latest generation spin pack features a more compact design, reducing the requirement for filter sand by around one-third and lowering the component’s weight by more than 30%. This not only cuts material consumption but also simplifies handling during maintenance and operation. Additionally, the modified spinning beam design reduces the overall surface area, enabling energy savings of up to 10%.
EvoQuench 2.0 enhances cooling stability
Another important element of the POY 2.0 system is the EvoQuench 2.0 radial quenching unit, which ensures uniform filament cooling. The upgraded design allows operators to adjust the convergence length more easily, improving process stability while shortening setup times and minimizing waste during production changes.

WINGS POY 2.0 introduces automated string-up
At the core of the spinning line is the WINGS POY 2.0 winder, which introduces an automatic string-up function—a feature long awaited by the industry. The automation ensures consistently short string-up times, reduces production waste, and lowers labor requirements at the winding stage, which is particularly beneficial for companies facing a shortage of skilled workers.

The system also incorporates active quick-return mechanisms that enable faster adjustments of product-specific parameters, making it easier to handle frequently changing yarn products and high-quality production demands.
Additional design improvements include enhanced shielding of the chuck and bobbins to prevent fluff formation and stabilize the yarn path, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted operations.
Improved process reliability
The new yarn-end fixation system eliminates loose yarn ends, helping prevent unexpected machine stoppages caused by faulty sensor signals in downstream automated logistics systems. Meanwhile, the optimized XPT housing with a larger rotor stroke extends parking time and provides greater flexibility during the doffing process.
With these technological upgrades, Barmag says the POY 2.0 spinning concept delivers greater operational stability, higher productivity and improved product quality, setting a new benchmark for modern filament yarn manufacturing.
