Australian Merino wool and Australian cotton were showcased together for the first time in Bangladesh during the Australian Natural Fiber Seminar in Dhaka. The event, held on June 22, introduced mills and brand representatives to wool-cotton blending technologies, offering new pathways for higher-value, sustainable apparel manufacturing.

This milestone marks a significant step in the Bangladesh ready-made garment (RMG) industry’s push to diversify exports and move into premium, value-added textile markets. Key details of the showcase include:

The Innovation Focus: Industry experts and technologists showcased how Premium Australian Merino wool can be processed on conventional short-staple cotton systems (using technologies like eqwools™). This eliminates the need for Bangladeshi mills to invest in expensive, specialized long-staple machinery.

Event Organizers: The showcase was organized by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) in Dhaka, in collaboration with the Australian Cotton Shippers Association (ACSA), Wool Producers Australia (WPA), and The Woolmark Company.

Industry Turnout: Over 150 local stakeholders, including spinners, knitters, weavers, and garment exporters, attended the event to explore the benefits of combining the comfort of cotton with the performance and sustainability benefits of wool.

Global Demand: With global buyers demanding greater supply chain traceability and sustainable manufacturing, the blend offers manufacturers in Bangladesh a strategic way to elevate their product offerings and tap into higher-margin export
