Chattogram Customs House to face 12-hour suspension of activities on Oct 14
Because of the upgradation in its customs management system Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) software, the Chittagong Customs House in Bangladesh will see a 12-hour suspension of all activities, including taxation, and port delivery of goods on 14 October.
Media reports maintained that adding the suspension will be from the 14 October night to the morning of 15 October.
During the software upgrade —developed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, ASYCUDA uses international codes and standards set by the World Customs Organization, International Organization for Standardization, and United Nations and can be configured to suit the national characteristics of individual customs regimes, national tariffs and legislation — bills of customs clearance, duty payment, entry submission, and delivery of goods from Chittagong Port will remain suspended.
But this will not hurt imports and exports if the process can be completed within 12 hours, claimed reports citing the concerned customs authorities.
