Apparel exports to EU grew by 16.61% in Jul-Dec: EPB

Bangladesh’s ready-made garments export to the United States stood at $4.27 billion in July-Dec

Bangladesh’s apparel exports to the European Union (EU) in July-December of the fiscal year 2022-23, increased by 16.61% to $11.50 billion, which was $9.87 billion during the same period of FY 2021-22, according to country-wise export statistics released by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

Export to Germany grew by 3.54% y-o-y and reached $3.45 billion. Meanwhile, export to Spain and France grew by 17.62% and 33.08% with an amount of $1.70 billion and $1.41 million respectively during the first six months of the current fiscal year 2022-23.

On the other hand, Bangladesh’s export to Poland declined by 18.43% during the mentioned period.

Bangladesh’s ready-made garments export to the United States stood at $4.27 billion in July-Dec, 2022-23 with only 1.11% y-o-y growth. At the same time, export to the United Kingdom and Canada reached $2.39 billion and $774.16 million, with 11.89% and 28.42% growth respectively.

Apart from the traditional markets, the country’s apparel export to non-traditional markets grew by 32.19% to $4.04 billion from $3.05 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. Among the non-traditional markets, export to Japan reached $754.72 million dollars with 42.54% growth.

Bangladesh’s export to India also increased significantly by 50%, which is $548.89 million.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association Director Md Mohiuddin Rubel said that the statistics indicate a further possible decline in growth rate in the coming months amid global fear of economic recession aggravated by the Russia-Ukraine war.
