Urges to adopt solar energy in textile industries: Commerce Advisor

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin has urged textile millers to adopt solar energy to reduce production costs and lessen reliance on gas and fossil fuels to remain competitive. Speaking at the 19th Dhaka International Textile & Garment Machinery Exhibition (DTG) at ICCB, he emphasized the need to cut fixed costs, especially as Bangladesh prepares to graduate from the LDC category, losing preferential market access.
The four-day DTG 2025 event, organized by the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and Yorkers Trade & Marketing Service Co Ltd, features over 1,100 brands from 33 countries, showcasing textile machinery, fabric production, and dyeing technology.
BTMA President Mohammad Ali Khokon highlighted the $22 billion investment in the primary textile sector and called for government assurances on gas prices and bank interest rates for long-term investments. Industry leaders and officials from various trade associations were also present at the inauguration.
