BLPA recommends to close three inactive ports

Bangladesh Land Port Authority, under the Ministry of Shipping, has recommended permanently closing three non-profitable and inactive land ports and suspending operations at another. This follows an inspection by a six-member high-level committee assessing the viability of eight such ports.
The committee, led by Joint Secretary Munshi Md. Moniruzzaman, included representatives from various government divisions. After analyzing infrastructure, trade potential, and economic viability, they submitted a report to Shipping Adviser Brig Gen (retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain.
The ports recommended for closure are Chilahati (Nilphamari), Daulatganj (Chuadanga), and Tegamukh (Rangamati) due to inadequate infrastructure and trade activity. Operations at Balla Land Port (Habiganj) are suggested for suspension due to a lack of infrastructure and road connectivity on the Indian side.
