Ample orders in RMG sector

US apparel and textile imports decline sharply in first quarter

Bangladeshi garment exporters have secured enough orders from US retailers to stay busy until Christmas 2025, with production ramping up from June and shipments starting in August. However, exporters are cautious as they await the final decision on tariffs by the Trump administration, which temporarily paused new tariffs for 90 days. Currently, Bangladesh faces a 10% baseline tariff, lower than the high 145% tariff on Chinese goods, making it a more attractive sourcing destination.

Despite adequate Christmas orders, negotiations for next summer’s season remain pending due to tariff uncertainties. Exporters are also trying to expand into European and other markets to diversify risk. Some factories report slightly lower order volumes compared to last year, and buyers are pushing for shared tariff costs. Bangladesh remains the third-largest garment exporter to the US after China and Vietnam, accounting for 9.3% of US garment imports.
