Bangladesh and Turkey are looking to elevate their economic partnership by increasing bilateral trade from the current $1.3 billion to $2 billion, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

The announcement came during his official visit to Dhaka, where he held bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman. Both sides discussed ways to boost trade, investment, and broader economic cooperation between the two countries.

As part of the visit, Bangladesh and Turkey signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the preservation of cultural heritage, underscoring the growing diversity of cooperation between the two nations.

The discussions also covered defense collaboration, regional and global issues, and cooperation within international organizations. Fidan described Bangladesh as an important partner in South Asia and a strong representative of the Global South.

He reiterated Turkey’s support for addressing the Rohingya crisis and pledged continued efforts to keep the issue on the international agenda.

Officials from both countries expressed optimism that enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, culture, and strategic sectors would further strengthen the long-standing friendship between Bangladesh and Turkey.
