EuroCham calls for GSP+ access and reforms to boost EU investment in Bangladesh

European Union Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (EuroCham Bangladesh) has urged Bangladesh to secure Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) facilities and strengthen its business environment to attract greater European investment.
Speaking at the EuroCham Business Evening 2026 held in Dhaka recently, EuroCham Chairperson Nuria Lopez said the chamber is actively advocating in Brussels for Bangladesh’s inclusion in the GSP+ scheme, which would help maintain the country’s export competitiveness in the EU market after LDC graduation.
She also stressed the need for a transparent, predictable and business-friendly investment climate to encourage more European companies to view Bangladesh as a viable manufacturing and investment destination.
The event, themed “Delivering for European Businesses,” coincided with EuroCham’s first annual general meeting and the inaugural advisory council meeting, bringing together EU officials, ambassadors and trade representatives from several member states, including Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, France, the Netherlands and Italy, alongside Bangladeshi business and government stakeholders.
In his keynote address, EU Ambassador Michael Miller reaffirmed the EU’s strong commercial engagement with Bangladesh and called for a level playing field for European companies, policy consistency, and timely implementation of reforms initiated by the interim government.
