Export operations at Chattogram Port resumed on the evening of 29th June after customs officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) ended their protest demanding structural reforms. The two-day shutdown, which had halted export-import activities nationwide, ended following the government’s declaration of customs and revenue services as “essential,” warning of stern action.

Customs officers returned to duty at key checkpoints, including port gates and scanning areas, enabling Inland Container Depots (ICDs) to begin dispatching export containers to the port. The Bangladesh Inland Container Depot Association (BICDA) confirmed preparations to move at least 2,000 TEUs overnight from 19 depots to clear the backlog.

Over 3,000 containers were stranded at the port, and nearly 4,000 remained stuck at depots during the disruption, affecting four vessels. With the submission of export bills resuming and clearing and forwarding agents returning to work, full port operations are expected to normalize by now.
