Germany to donate Euro 7m to protect textile and leather workers

Germany will give Bangladesh a grant of 7 million euros to ensure the social security of workers in the leather and textile industries.
In this regard, the governments of Bangladesh and Germany signed a bilateral agreement titled “Accident Insurance for Employees in the Textile and Leather Industry (Working title: Social Protection for Workers in the Textile and Leather Sector (SoSi)” that includes a grant of 7 million Euros.
The agreement was signed on behalf of each government by Dr Andreas Kuck, Country Director of the GIZ Dhaka office in Bangladesh, and Sharifa Khan, Secretary, Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance.
The objective of the project is to improve the conditions for access to social protection for workers in the textile and leather sector. This project was proposed in the “Technical Cooperation Agreement 2021” signed on January 11, 2022 between Bangladesh and Germany.
Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) is the partner ministry while the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) and the central fund of MoLE is the executing agency of this project.
