Government wants to give internet facilities at lower cost to its people

Bangladesh Submarine Cables has announced a 10% reduction in wholesale bandwidth prices, a move expected to lower internet bills for users. The decision was made during a board meeting of the state-owned company, as disclosed in a press release by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing. Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications, and ICT Affairs, emphasized that lowering bandwidth costs is a key step toward making internet access more affordable.

Additionally, ongoing discussions aim to provide mobile operators with access to Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) facilities—a technology that could reduce transmission costs by up to 39%. Taiyeb indicated that telecom operators are expected to pass these cost savings on to consumers. Furthermore, Bangladesh is on track to connect to its third submarine cable, SEA-ME-WE 6, by mid-next year, further enhancing its international bandwidth capacity.
