Hyosung to debut sustainable innovations at 2025 Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen

As the fashion industry braces for stricter global sustainability regulations, Hyosung, the world’s leading spandex producer by market share, is set to make its debut as an official exhibitor at the 2025 Global Fashion Summit. The event, taking place June 3–5 in Copenhagen, serves as the premier forum for fashion sustainability, gathering top industry leaders to explore actionable change.
Hyosung will spotlight its pioneering sustainable textile solutions, most notably the expanded regen™ BIO Spandex range. These fibers incorporate varying levels of renewable content and are gaining momentum among luxury brands and retailers for their compatibility with natural materials like organic cotton, merino wool, cashmere, and silk. The company’s regen BIO+ and regen BIO Max Spandex—certified by third-party bodies—replace conventional inputs with bio-based alternatives, significantly reducing fossil fuel dependency while maintaining the same stretch, resilience, and durability as traditional spandex.
“As a comprehensive sustainable solution provider, Hyosung tailors its innovations to meet each brand’s unique sustainability goals,” said Simon Whitmarsh-Knight, Global Sustainability Director, and Textiles. “We’re thrilled to see a growing number of brands embrace regen BIO spandex as a renewable stretch alternative.” Reinforcing its ESG pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, Hyosung has begun constructing a 50,000-ton Bio-BDO facility at its Vietnam site, with plans to expand to 200,000 tons. Utilizing Geno™ BDO™ technology, the facility will ferment sugarcane-derived sugars to replace fossil-based inputs, making it the world’s first integrated bio-based spandex plant and reducing carbon emissions across the value chain.
Additionally, Hyosung will showcase its portfolio of 100% recycled spandex, nylon, and polyester, along with circular polyester made from end-of-life textiles—further advancing the company’s commitment to a circular textile economy. This year’s Summit theme, Barriers and Bridges, emphasizes the evolving dynamics of voluntary versus mandatory sustainability measures and calls for bold, unified action to drive systemic change.
