7% decrease in Indian Cotton Production in 2024-25 season

Cotton Association of India (CAI) forecasts a 7% decrease in cotton production for the 2024-25 season, estimating 302.25 lakh bales of 170 kg each, compared to 325.22 lakh bales in the previous season. The Indian government projects a slightly lower figure of 299.26 lakh bales, while the USDA predicts a higher output of 320 lakh bales.
Regional production trends shows Northern Indian production is expected to drop to 34 lakh bales from 45.62 lakh bales. In Central India, production may decline to 189 lakh bales from 202.21 lakh bales. In Southern India, a slight increase to 74 lakh bales from 73.85 lakh bales is anticipated.
Total Cotton Supply (up to November 2024) was 108.41 lakh bales, including 69.22 lakh bales from production, 9 lakh bales from imports, and 30.19 lakh bales in opening stock. Domestic Consumption estimated at 54 lakh bales. Exports (up to November 30, 2024) estimated at 4 lakh bales and stock (end of November 2024) estimated at 50.41 lakh bales.
Total Cotton Supply (2024-25 season) retained at 357.44 lakh bales (30.19 lakh opening stock, 302.25 lakh production, and 25 lakh imports). Imports was estimated at 25 lakh bales, up by 9.80 lakh bales from last year and domestic consumption estimated at 313 lakh bales.
