Bangladesh plans to operate its ports by global port operators

Bangladesh government is planning to appoint top global port operators to manage Chattogram and other ports, aiming to boost efficiency and reduce persistent container congestion, said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
Speaking at a press conference in Chattogram, he cited capacity limitations among local operators and emphasized the need to meet global investor demands. The goal is to expand container handling capacity from 1.27 million TEUs to 7.86 million TEUs by 2030. Discussions are underway with experienced international firms, and the selection process will be transparent, through open tenders or G2G deals.
He also addressed the idea of a humanitarian corridor with Myanmar, stating it would only be considered under UN initiative and is currently premature.
