Forum unveiled 14 point manifesto for BGMEA upcoming election

Forum, one of the panels contesting the upcoming 2025–27 BGMEA election, has unveiled a 14-point manifesto aimed at building a sustainable and future-ready garment sector. At a manifesto announcement event held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Forum panel leader Mahmud Hasan Khan emphasized that the garment industry is more than just a business—it reflects the labor, sacrifice, and aspirations of millions of Bangladeshis.
Khan criticized the limited role of BGMEA in issuing documents and called for a more solution-oriented leadership that deeply understands and addresses industry problems. He stressed that BGMEA must take responsibility for branding Bangladesh globally as a garment hub.
Key points in Forum’s manifesto include:
Support for SMEs and non-bonded industries, formulating an exit policy for struggling factories, creating a special fund to aid distressed factories, engagement with the government to manage tariff-related challenges, establishing a dedicated ministry for the garment sector, diversifying markets and products to navigate global trade shifts, addressing challenges tied to LDC graduation, banking, and customs regulations etc.
The event was attended by Forum leaders, including President Abdus Salam and Secretary General Dr. Rashid Ahmed Hossaini, alongside former BGMEA presidents and election officials. The BGMEA election is set for May 31, with three panels — Forum, Sammilita Parishad, and Oikkyo Parishad — contesting for leadership of the association.
